Abstract
Aim: This study investigates the relationship between sexual abuse, spirituality, and religion in individuals with borderline personality disorder (BPD).
Method: A descriptive correlational research method was employed. The statistical population included female students from the Faculty of Humanities at the University of Science and Research during the 2020-2021 academic year, with a sample size of 150. Tools for measurement included the Border Personality Questionnaire (1999), King's Spirituality and Religion Questionnaire (2008), and the Childhood Trauma Questionnaire (1988). Data analysis was conducted using SPSS 20, employing descriptive statistics (mean and standard deviation) and inferential tests, including Pearson correlation and multiple regression analyses.
Results: The multiple regression analysis revealed an R-value of 0.562 and an R² value of 0.315, indicating that sexual abuse trauma accounts for 31% of the variance in BPD scores. Specifically, physical abuse significantly predicts BPD (p = 0.001, β = 0.356), as does emotional abuse (p = 0.001, β = 0.321) and sexual abuse (p = 0.001, β = 0.289). the multiple regression analysis yielded an R-value of 0.478 and an R² value of 0.228, suggesting that spirituality and religion explain 22% of the variance in BPD scores. Critical thinking negatively predicts BPD (p = 0.001, β = -0.300), personal meaning also has a negative predictive value (p = 0.001, β = -0.276).
Conclusion: The findings indicate that components of sexual and emotional abuse, along with physical abuse, positively predict BPD, while aspects of spirituality and religion, critical thinking, personal meaning, and consciousness, negatively predict BPD.
